Perk Guide for Fallout 76: How to Get Ability Sets

The new perk system in Fallout 76 is based on special cards. You can get them from packs, each containing 5 random cards. In this guide, we'll tell you how to get more ability sets and perks in Fallout 76 to use new ones and improve the old ones.

Perks

Perks are the driving force behind character customization and progression in Fallout 76. Some improve your combat abilities, others enhance healing or manage various survival mechanics. Ability sets are the best way to acquire several new skills (perks) in Fallout 76. When you receive a pack, a notification appears on the screen. Then you need to use your Pip Boy and open the pack.

Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck are the primary attributes that influence your perks. This time, you start with 1 point in each, rather than creating your character with a specific set. Every time you level up, you can increase one stat by one point, up to a maximum of 15 points. Points cannot be gained after reaching level 50, so spend them wisely.

Also, as you level up, you'll be able to choose a perk card. Usually, it's a new type of card, but not always. This card doesn't necessarily have to belong to the stat you just increased, so you can take a perk card specializing in damage from one-handed weapons even if you just increased Charisma. They are divided into categories for easy navigation.

Of course, you'll need to have enough points in the corresponding S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat to equip the perk card.

Duplicate cards can be combined to create better versions of those perks. For example, the «Gladiator» perk card normally increases damage from one-handed melee weapons by 10%, but if you combine it with the same card, you can increase this stat. At the same time, you also increase the number of points you need to have in that stat to equip this perk card.

How to Get an Ability Set

You get one perk card for each level, but there are certain level-ups that reward you with ability sets. An ability set for every level from 4 to 10, and then every 5 levels. Some of the perks might be duplicates, and others may not be available for use until you level up. You'll also get a piece of gum with a joke.

Can You Share Card Effects with the Group

Yes, if you have at least three points in the Charisma stat. Each perk card requires you to have three times more Charisma points in total compared to the cost of the perk card you're sharing. If you meet these conditions, then you can share your benefits with your teammates.

Swapping Equipped Cards

Perk cards are not permanent. You can change them at any time to adapt to the circumstances around you. For example, if you have a perk card with the ability to pick locks, you can temporarily swap it out to hack a terminal or disarm a trap, and then switch back.

Upgrading Cards

Some cards might seem a bit weak at level one, but there's a way to increase the power of these cards. If you obtain multiple copies of the same card, you can merge them to create an upgraded version.
