Pixels have always been friends with platformers. Actually, the first adventure and action games used platform gameplay. And pixels in those years were a dire necessity - only the consoles of that time supported them.

But even now, pixel platformers are surprisingly common. Largely due to the popularity of the genre and the relative ease of implementation.
