One of the earliest first-person games and a true predecessor of modern shooters. The project emerged in 1973 thanks to students at NASA's research center and long before the genre became popular, it proposed ideas that would later become the foundation for FPS games.
The player moved through a three-dimensional maze from a first-person perspective, tracking down opponents and engaging in shootouts with unusual enemies in the form of flying eyeballs. It was here that elements of deathmatch battles first appeared, which decades later would make games like Wolfenstein 3D and Quake famous. Despite its extremely primitive graphics by modern standards, Maze War is considered one of the most important games in the history of the industry and an early foundation for the entire first-person shooter genre.
