The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 source code leaked online
Attackers who hacked CD Projekt RED servers in 2021 posted archives with the source code of several games from the studio — The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent. Along with them, passwords were also made public.
Let us recall that three years ago, CDPR's servers were subject to a hacker attack, as a result of which the source code of the studio's projects fell into the hands of scammers. The attackers began to blackmail the studio, demanding a ransom, but the developers did not respond to their demands. It is known that the volume of the leak was 450 GB — along with the code, the hackers received several game builds for developers and console tests.
Most likely, the leaked source code no longer poses a threat to CD Projekt RED projects. Not long ago, the studio abandoned its own REDengine engine in favor of Unreal Engine. But modders can take advantage of the leak — the official The Witcher 3 REDkit editor was recently released on Steam, which significantly expanded the possibilities for modifying the game.
Let us remind you that the creators of the Netflix series «The Witcher» recently announced that the fifth season will be the last.
