Baldur's Gate 3 could have roleplaying co-op like Divinity: Original Sin

The head of Larian Studios, Sven Vincke, shared information about another feature that could be added to Baldur's Gate 3. Initially, the game was conceived of a cooperative with pre-written dialogues of the heroes, as in Divinity: Original Sin.

As the CEO of the studio said, they simply could not implement this mechanic:

In Original Sin you could actually roleplay dialogue with your partner, in co-operative play. We actually had that deeply in Baldur's Gate 3 at some point also. But the problem was our dialogue trees blew up so hard, we just couldn't manage it anymore. So we had to cut it all.

Divinity: Original Sin actually had a rather unusual co-op dialogue system. The players' lines were pre-written for their characters, with which they could communicate without leaving their role.

Previously, Sven Vincke talked about another cut mechanic from Baldur's Gate 3, which would transfer player characters to another dimension after death.
