Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix developer reveals game's link to Quake

Current No Man's Sky developer Martin Griffiths has shared some of his early gameplay footage from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix from 2007. He shared some of the earliest gameplay footage and also revealed an unexpected connection between the project and the Quake series.

According to the programmer, the game adaptation of the Order of the Phoenix was his first project with a completely open world. Among other things, he showed what the gameplay looked like at an early stage of development — the level was saved on one of the SD cards. At the end of the video, even Albus Dumbledore appears in a T-pose, as an obvious contender for a meme.

The developer also revealed another interesting detail about the game:

I don't think outside of the original Harry Potter team that it's well known that an earlier version of this engine was used to bring Quake 3 to PlayStation 2. My favorite challenge was four-way split screen rendering working for local multiplayer.
— Martin Griffiths

Recall that Warner Bros. recently named the Hogwarts Legacy sequel a priority project for the next two years. The arcade game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was also recently released.
