In 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Bungie, known for the Halo and Destiny series, for $3.6 billion. Recently, a rumor surfaced online that the acquired studio wants to return to single-player games.

This was reported by Zuhaad Ali, the owner of Destiny Bulletin, a portal specializing in all news related to Destiny.

Something I heard when I was working on a story last year: A lot of Bungie devs were interested in returning to single-player projects, but leadership was firmly set on live service as the studio’s future. Even smaller, less risky projects/ideas would get immediately shut down.

Interestingly, Sony recently canceled two games-as-a-service projects that Bend Studio (creators of Syphon Filter and Days Gone) and Bluepoint Games (creators of the Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes) were working on. Additionally, there are rumors that the company also canceled an online game based on Horizon.

It is worth noting that last year, Sony shut down the multiplayer game Concord just two weeks after its release.
