Digital Foundry: GTA 5 Enhanced May Use GTA 6 Tech

Digital Foundry experts have suggested that Rockstar Games used the next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto 5 as a testing ground for GTA 6. They still believe that the upcoming game will only run at 30 FPS on consoles.
One of the innovations of GTA 5 Enhanced was ray-traced global illumination (RTGI), which significantly improved the image. Testing showed that Rockstar did a good job with optimization: on RTX 4060 using DLSS 3 and maximum settings, the game produces a stable 60 FPS at 1440p. And this is with dense traffic on the map.
Experts noted that this level of optimization is suitable for current-generation consoles. It is possible that the technology was tested on GTA 5 before being used for Grand Theft Auto 6. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain why the developers decided to bother so much for a ten-year-old action game, according to Digital Foundry.
However, experts do not yet have high hopes for 60 FPS, since the technology heavily loads the console's processor. Let us remind you that the release of GTA 6 is scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this fall.
