Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Anniversary Update Announced

Firaxis is celebrating the first anniversary of Sid Meier's Civilization 7 with the announcement of a major free update, Test of Time, alongside patch 1.3.2. These updates will significantly overhaul key game systems and improve overall quality of life. Patch 1.3.2 introduces nested tooltips in production menus and tech trees, balance changes for several civilizations, a new “Appeal Lens” for assessing happiness, plus the free return of Gilgamesh and festive cosmetic rewards for all players.

The centerpiece of the Test of Time update is the ability to lead the same civilization through every era while maintaining its unique core identity. There’s also a new syncretism system, allowing you to temporarily adopt units and infrastructure from other civilizations during their golden ages.

The victory system is getting a major rework as well: instead of Legacy Paths, the game will now offer more flexible triumph conditions across four categories—military, economic, cultural, and scientific. Progress toward these victory types starts in the early eras and can even lead to an early win. Legacy Paths are being completely replaced by Triumphs, which are a set of challenging but optional objectives that grant instant bonuses and special cards, impacting your strategy in the next era.

To mark the anniversary, Civilization 7 is also launching on Apple Arcade for iPhone and iPad on February 5. However, this version will not include multiplayer or DLC, and large maps will only be available on devices with 8GB of RAM. Firaxis is also hosting a prize contest in the official Discord community, releasing new plush merchandise from Makeship, and will premiere a special behind-the-scenes audio production video on February 11.

Firaxis emphasizes that all these changes are based on player feedback, and that the future development of Civilization 7 will continue in close collaboration with the community.
