Tips for Medieval Dynasty: Seasons, Hunting, Leveling Up, Village, and Weapons
Here are a few helpful tips for beginners and an overview of the main gameplay mechanics that will help you quickly get to grips with Medieval Dynasty.
Starting the Game
In the beginning, you won't have much income, and everything seems very expensive. Immediately start the first quest to claim your land and begin building a house, which will provide you with a place for storage and sleep. After you add a few items to your inventory, you won't be able to take more, you will have to leave something at home.
Quests
There are several quests in the town near where you spawn. Approach a man named Alwyn — follow his quest chain, which will lead you to your first bow. After completing a few more tasks, you will be able to get your first long bow, which works much better.
Dynasty points will be very important later in the game, so it is recommended to complete any quest you encounter during the game.
Seasonal Food
Spring
Collect Morels to quickly make food or sell them to earn gold quickly.
Berries can be a good source of income, but don't eat them as they are poisonous. If you don't need the money, save them for summer.
Summer
Collect berries to quickly quench hunger and thirst on the go. You will need to collect them in large quantities.
Autumn
There are many mushrooms in autumn. Pay special attention to their description in the inventory, as it will tell you whether they are poisonous or not. Hopefully, by autumn, you will have hunted and prepared meat, so you can treat all mushrooms as an additional source of income.
Winter
In winter, there really is nothing to gather in the forest. The only source of food at this time will be hunting unless you want to pay for food in various taverns.
Hunting
The main character has a hunting skill that highlights animals in green (passive) or red (aggressive) within a certain radius from you (it's similar to the survival skill that highlights edible plants on the ground in yellow). It's worth investing in both of these skills.
Apart from rabbits, which can be killed with a single shot from a bow, other animals typically can survive the first hit. You can use a spear (as well as arrows) as a marker, making it easier to track wounded animals as they flee, as you can hold the Alt key and track the weapon. Just make sure you throw a spear with no less than 66% durability, so it doesn't break upon impact.
Carry a knife with you to skin the animal and retrieve meat. If you don't have a knife in your inventory, you won't be able to use the carcass.
Rabbit
Rabbits are easiest to hunt with a bow. Since they run on the ground, they are hard to spot in spring and summer when the vegetation is lush and the grass is high. You can get a lot of practice with spear throwing. Use Ctrl (by default) to sneak up, but keep in mind that you need to maintain the right distance, otherwise you'll be noticed, and the rabbit will run away.
Fox
Foxes are easy to spot because of their color and squeaky sounds. They can be very erratic in their movements, which sometimes makes spear throwing challenging.
Deer
A spear throw to the head from hiding is the easiest way to kill a deer. It will dash and run erratically if you wound it in the body.
Wolf
One shot in the head or two in the body.
Boar
They attack you before you even see them, and the moment you hear the sound of heavy hooves, go in the opposite direction and throw spears at their head. Or just run away, they will stop chasing after some time. One shot in the head or three in the body.
Bison
Seems cute and peaceful until it suddenly hits you and takes away half of your health. Keep your distance and make headshots, bison are somewhat slow, so you should be able to handle them. Two shots in the head or three in the body.
Bear
Can be found in the mountains to the south or near lakes. Very dangerous, don't take unnecessary risks. Two shots in the head or three in the body.
Character
Healing, Health Recovery
You heal when you sleep at night. You can also heal using plantains, a plant with green leaves and brown flowers. It may be hard to spot. Keep a supply of this plant on hand, and excess can be sold.
Do not eat raw meat and poisonous mushrooms. They will cause food poisoning. If you get food poisoning, you can use St. John's Wart to heal. It's a small yellow flower that can be found everywhere. Keep a supply on hand, and sell the excess.
Cooking
After you've hunted and got raw meat, you need to cook it. You can cook meat on a campfire, on a hearth in a house, or in a tavern. To light a fire or cook food, first create a torch. You will be able to light a fire only if you have a torch in your inventory.
Skills and Skill Tree
Skills develop while you engage in related activities. More detailed information can be found in the corresponding menu.
The easiest way to increase farming efficiency early on is to create a hoe, till the farmland, and cultivate it. Again and again, until you unlock the construction of a barn.
A large number of farms require manure, which is hard to come by early in the game when you are just starting. For this, you need to level up the technology tree.
Village Residents
As soon as your village accumulates enough buildings and dynasty points, you will want to invite residents to move there. They need a house, a constant supply of wood (in the resource storage) and food (in the food storage).
Village residents looking for a new home will require their opinion of you to be no less than 70% (default at first meeting is usually 50%). You need to start conversations with them early on, even before you are ready to invite them. You can have a maximum of 3 successful dialogue attempts with a person before you have to wait until the next day.
Once you reach or exceed 70% relationship with them, you can invite them to your village. If you have enough dynasty points, they will agree. Then, in the Management tab, you can assign them a house and a profession.
In the chest, in the building you settle them in, there must be the necessary tools for the chosen job. For example, a woodcutter needs axes. A farmer needs a hoe, a scythe, and a seed bag. A hunter needs a bow, arrows, and a knife.
Spears
Spears are very important, they deal more damage than bows, and you can easily make them using a single tree. You can aim by holding the right mouse button and, while holding, click the left mouse button to throw the spear at your target. Remember, gravity exists, so you will need to calculate the flight trajectory. If you crouch, you can get a little closer to your prey and make a more accurate shot.
It's best to always have about 3 spears in reserve, as they break after three throws/hits. Keep in mind that you may encounter several aggressive animals in the forest.
Inspection Mode
If you hold down the ALT button, you will enter inspection mode. It consumes your stamina and shows you where you dropped some items or where your spears (arrows) went after you threw them. It also shows you the names of people in villages, as well as their skills, so you can better choose who you want to take to your village.
As you unlock new skills, you can also see mushrooms, bird feathers, herbs, and even animals (if they are nearby) around you. Aggressive animals are highlighted in red, while passive ones are in green. Very handy for tracking boars in the fall or finding a large clearing of mushrooms.
Building a Village
Carefully choose the location where you want to place your home, but there are several factors to keep in mind. First and foremost, you need water. So, it's best to build your house near a river or lake.
Pay attention to the nearby areas, wolves may not be the most pleasant neighbors. Animals respawn about twice a day.
Resources are very important, from wood to clay. Building near a forest, mountains, a place for a mine, or clay pits is a good idea, you should look around before deciding where to build your village. You will need a decent amount of space for all the buildings and structures that will appear in the future.
Food Storage
You don't need to assign a worker here, but you definitely should build a Resource Storage before attracting people, otherwise, they won't have food or firewood. Just place the products you found in the storage chest of this building, and the food (demand for it) you see on the management tab will show you how much food you have and what its hourly need is. Make sure you always have enough food for at least one day.
Resource Storage
A worker is also not needed here, build a Resource Storage before calling people to live in your village. Be sure to add firewood to the chest, it gives more Wood to your villagers. They use it to keep warm in the cold. If you don't know how to make firewood, just open the crafting menu using the Q button, firewood will be to the right of the torch.
Woodshed
You should place axes in the wood storage chest. After some time, workers will break their axe and will not continue chopping (though they will still play the animation) wood for you. If you don't give them axes, they will still collect sticks. They are not of much value in terms of wood supply, so you will still have to chop about 3 trees a day to meet the demand for wood.
If you keep looking into the woodcutter's storage to see if there are logs — don't worry, all the logs and sticks that your woodcutter gets are automatically sent to the resource storage. There's no need to constantly run to the woodshed.
Hunting Lodge
Put a bow and a few arrows in the chest, not spears, for the hunter to do their job. If you add a knife to the chest, the hunter will yield leather. The food they gather on the hunt can be found in your food chest, they also collect feathers. Unfortunately, the food they gather is not enough to allow you to idle. You will have to do a bit more hunting yourself.
Farming and Barn
If you want a worker to engage in farming, you need a barn. Assign a responsible worker there, capable of taking good care of the fields. If you assign him as a farmer, he will process wheat, not take care of the fields.
Next, you will need a hoe, scythe, and bag placed in the barn's storage. You won't need anything else in the chest, even seeds or manure, as your workers will magically find them themselves. If you don't have the money to buy a hoe and scythe, you can steal them from a barn outside of Gostovia. Just make sure no one is around.
The next step will be creating a field, don't make it too big because the AI will take a long time to sow the entire field. After you've placed your field, go to the management tab, click on the field icon, there you will see your fields, which are numbered. Select one, open the details with the F button to enter the Field Management section. Just choose what you want to plant in this field.
Now your workers should go out in the morning and plow, fertilize, and sow the field without your participation. Don't try to help them by doing anything on the field: don't harvest, don't fertilize, and don't sow yourself. Just let them do their job, and you will get the harvest in the barn when it's ready. If your farmers get stuck, try reloading the game, they should continue their work.
Houses
After you place the foundation, you will be able to edit the walls and roofs of houses by pressing E with a hammer. Using more expensive materials, such as stone, for building a house makes it better and reduces wood consumption.
There is a difference of -0.6 wood consumption for a fully stone-walled house with a wooden tile roof compared to a regular house.
Quests
Your villagers sometimes get quests, just like any other NPC in the game, completing them is not mandatory, it won't negatively affect you.
Taxes
In the spring of the next season, you will receive the Paying your Taxes quest, go to Gostovia and talk to Unigost.
