Bosses of Shadow of the Colossus — where to find and how to kill 16 colossi
The adventure game Shadow of the Colossus focuses primarily on killing colossi, which are massive titans. Each of them is located at a specific point on the map and has weak spots that are quite difficult to find on the first playthrough. In this guide, we will tell you where to find each colossus in the game and how to kill it.
To begin with, it should be noted that you can find a colossus using the main character's sword. Simply step into the light and draw the sword, after which it will point to the enemy's location. Once you defeat the opponent, you will be returned to the starting point, from where you need to track the next colossus.
Colossus #1 (Valus)
The first colossus will be available immediately after the introductory cutscene. It serves as a tutorial boss, so no one should have any difficulties fighting it. The colossus looks like a giant minotaur but is a relatively weak enemy. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Valley of the Wanderer.
To find the first colossus, head south from the temple where you start the game. Follow the platforms, then climb the mountain. You should reach an open field where Valus will pass by you.
Climb up Valus' leg using his fur to reach his back. Each colossus has at least two zones that need to be attacked. One of these zones is on the back. Approach it, then crouch and deliver a strong blow. After a few attacks, run to the colossus's head and finish off the enemy.
Colossus #2 (Taurus Magnus)
Now exit the temple and head north. Follow the long bridge, then cross it. Follow down the canyon until you reach a partially destroyed wall. The second colossus will break the wall, after which the battle will begin.
Although the second colossus looks quite intimidating, it is very weak. Shoot an arrow into the enemy's leg. The colossus will fall to the ground. You need to quickly run to the front of the enemy and climb his fur to the top.
Climbing onto the enemy's head, deliver several blows to the vulnerable spot. Recover your energy, then run to the rear of the colossus. There is the second weak zone of the enemy. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement The Mammoth.
Colossus #3 (Terrestris Veritas)
The third boss is probably one of the largest in the game. However, do not be intimidated by its large size. Compared to other enemies, it is not very strong.
As with finding the second colossus, follow the bridge north, which is behind the starting temple. You should reach a desert area. Make your way through it and find the passage between the mountains. Then run straight and turn towards the cave. Swim through the lake and reach the large oval platform where the third boss will be.
To defeat the boss, wait for the moment when it delivers a powerful ground attack. Dodge at this moment, then quickly run to it to climb its body. Here you will have to jump across parts of the colossus's body to reach the enemy's head. Deliver several blows to the weak spot, then rest and regain strength. Climb down the enemy's back to the next vulnerable zone. Finish off the boss! After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Wake the Knight.
Colossus #4 (Equis Bellator Apex)
The fourth colossus is one of the truly interesting bosses in the entire game. To defeat it, you will need to use your wits and the environment.
To find the boss, head southeast from the temple. Pass through the mountain pass until you reach the valley. That's where the fourth colossus is hiding.
In the battle with the boss, try to lure it into the underground area. Use arrows to attract the boss's attention. Your task is to sneak around the boss through the trenches and then climb onto its back. There, deliver several blows to the weak spots of the enemy. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Land of the Gravestones.
Colossus #5 (Avis Prada)
The fifth colossus is the first flying boss in the game, and the battle with it takes place in the air. When searching for the boss, follow almost the same path as for the previous boss. Instead of turning into the dark zone, run northeast from it and follow the trail straight.
Jump into the lake, then swim to the platform and climb the tall pillar. Wait for the colossus to come out to you.
In the battle with the enemy, stand on one of the platforms located in the lake. Shoot the colossus with an arrow, then wait for it to fly towards you. When the boss gets too close, jump and grab onto its wing. Get to the back of the colossus and deliver blows to the vulnerable zone. Then attack the remaining weak spots.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Rider on the Wind.
Colossus #6 (Belua Maximus)
The sixth colossus is a huge troll. The boss is located in the southwest of the main map. Pass through the forest until you reach a structure near the mountains. Enter inside. Pass through the platforms until you reach the tower. Go outside and you will meet the sixth colossus.
Do not go down to the ground. Shoot arrows at the boss from a safe place to attract its attention. Jump onto the enemy's beard, and then climb to its head. There is the first vulnerable zone of the enemy. After a few blows, climb down the back to the second weak point of the boss and finish it off.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Tomb of the Giant.
Colossus #7 (Draco Marinus)
The encounter with the seventh boss is truly one of the most memorable in the game, as the battle will take place on water and underwater.
Leaving the temple, head northwest. Pass through the bridge to the north, which you took to the second and third colossi. Walk parallel to the huge bridge until you find the mountain pass. Now find the lake and swim a certain distance through it.
When the boss attacks you, be in the water and try to grab onto the enemy's fur when it emerges. Carefully try to reach the enemy's vulnerable points, then kill the colossus.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Thunderstorm.
Colossus #8 (Kumorori)
Head southeast on the main map to the mountain pass. In the mountains, there is a small dark passage you need to enter. Proceed forward, jumping on platforms until you enter the huge tower. Step a bit outside and the boss will be in front of you.
Try to shoot the enemy with your bow when it climbs the walls. With an accurate shot, the boss will fall. When this happens, quickly jump down and while the colossus is lying down, deliver several blows to its weak spot. Then repeat the action several times until you kill the enemy.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Destroyer of the Colosseum.
Colossus #9 (Nimbus Recanto)
Run to the bridge west of the temple. Move northeast on the main map. If you are moving correctly, the location will start to darken gradually. Eventually, you should reach the geysers. Enter the cave to fight the boss.
In the battle with the enemy, it's better to use your horse so that the colossus doesn't hit you with its laser beam. While shooting the enemy with your bow, try to lure it to the geysers. If you time it correctly, the geyser's water will knock the colossus down, and you will be able to climb on it to kill it.
Deliver decisive blows to the colossus's belly area, after which it will be defeated. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Dweller of the Cave.
Colossus #10 (Harena Tigris)
Again, head west from the temple, as you did when searching for the eighth colossus. However, instead of going back to the geysers, turn southwest. Find the chasm in the mountains. This is the lair of the beast you need to defeat.
In the battle with the boss, stay on your horse. Try to run away from it until it sticks its head out of the sand. At this moment, quickly shoot the enemy's eyes with your bow, then jump on it and deliver several strong blows to the colossus's weak points.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Secrets of the Sand.
Colossus #11 (Ignas)
The eleventh colossus in the game is perhaps the most creative, as you will need to use fire in the battle against it. To find the boss, move north from the temple across the bridge you took when tracking the second colossus. Reach the desert, then find the large chasm you need to jump into.
Upon entering the battle with the boss, immediately try to find torches, then climb the platforms up. Attract the colossus's attention by shooting it with your bow. It should knock down a torch. Jump down and pick up the torch, then light it. Use the torch to lure the boss into a corner of the zone towards the light. Eventually, the colossus should fall off the platform's edge, and its armor will be destroyed.
Immediately climb onto the boss and deliver several deadly blows to its weak points. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Guardian and Abyss.
Colossus #12 (Pelagia)
To find the colossus, head northeast from the temple. Cross the bridge to the forest. Now move towards the waterfall to find the temple with pillars.
Upon finding the boss, try to stay constantly in motion so that he doesn't hit you with his explosive projectiles. Try to get behind the boss, then climb onto his body. While on the colossus, deliver several blows to his weak spots.
After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Thunder of the Lake.
Colossus #13 (Phalanx)
The colossus is a giant flying worm. To find him, move in the same direction as when searching for the sixth colossus. You should reach the desert. Through the forest, go to the ruins where the thirteenth colossus will be waiting for you.
Try not to get off your horse to be able to move quickly. Try to hit the large sacs on the colossus's body with your bow. When you hit all three sacs, the boss will attack you. Try to jump onto the colossus's wings and hold on until he assumes a normal position.
You need to deliver blows to the three vulnerable spots on the opponent's body. After this, the enemy will be defeated. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Eye of the Cyclone.
Colossus #14 (Cenobia)
Finding the fourteenth colossus is quite challenging. Leave the temple and head west to the bridge. Cross it and enter the chasm in the mountains. Follow the path northwest and enter the cave. Upon exiting the cave, you will find a lake that you need to swim across to reach a large courtyard. Climb the fallen pillar and run to the right until you reach the boss.
In the battle with the fourteenth colossus, you need to be prepared for jumping across platforms. The boss is very agile, so grabbing onto him might be problematic. Climb the pillar and shoot the colossus with your bow from there so that he eventually destroys the structure. Repeat these actions with all the pillars until the building collapses. In the new area, climb the platform and lure the colossus there. After the platform falls on the enemy, his armor will be destroyed, and you can easily deliver blows to the colossus's weak spots to defeat him.
After this, the enemy will be defeated. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Shield of the Colossus.
Colossus #15 (Presidium Vigilo)
Finding the boss is very simple. Go through the northern bridge, then turn east. You should find a huge statue, then enter the arena where the fifteenth colossus will be.
When fighting the boss, try to dodge attacks in time so that the enemy doesn't crush you and you don't have to start over. Climb the platform in the arena and lure the boss to it using your bow and arrows. Then climb higher. Repeat this action several times until you reach the ladder. Then the boss should break the bridge.
Climb onto it, then jump onto the colossus. First, hit the enemy's hand so that he drops his weapon. After this, deliver blows to the enemy's palm to deal additional damage. After this, the enemy will be defeated. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Valley of the Fallen.
Colossus #16 (Grandis Supernus)
Well, you have reached the final boss in the game. Be prepared for a very challenging battle where you will need to use all the skills you have acquired during the playthrough.
Run south from the temple until you reach a huge door. Use the light beam from your sword to open the door and enter. Now move across the platforms until you encounter the colossus.
In the battle with the final boss, you will need to go through several steps before defeating him. Use the collapsed platforms to avoid the laser attack. Run through the underground passages to get closer to the colossus.
When you reach the boss, climb up his body. First, destroy the vulnerable spot on the enemy's back, then hit the colossus's hand when he grabs you. Climb onto the boss's shoulder and use the light beam to find his last vulnerable spot. Shoot an arrow there, then quickly run to the enemy's head. There, deliver the final blow to the colossus. After defeating the opponent, you will receive the achievement Last of the Colossi.
Congratulations, you have completed the game and defeated all the colossi!
