SAG-AFTRA is starting a new strike that could affect the release schedule of AAA games, including GTA 6
The release of GTA 6 may be delayed due to a new strike initiated by the SAG-AFTRA union, which includes voice and motion capture actors. With this action, they aim to address issues related to the use of AI in games.
It is known that the new strike will begin on July 26 and will continue until a favorable deal is reached with the largest game publishers, protecting the rights of actors in connection with the popularization of artificial intelligence.
«We're not going to consent to a contract that allows companies to abuse A.I. to the detriment of our members. Enough is enough. When these companies get serious about offering an agreement our members can live — and work — with, we will be here, ready to negotiate», — SAG-AFTRA representatives said.
It is known that 98.32% of the union members supported the start of the strike. According to media reports, negotiations are currently underway with many major publishers, including Take-Two, Activision, Disney, EA, Insomniac Games, and WB Games.
Some companies, in turn, are disappointed with SAG-AFTRA's recent decision to start a strike. According to Audrey Cooling, representing the interests of the publishers, the parties have already managed to find solutions to 24 out of 25 issues. For example, the companies agreed to increase actors' wages.
The media believes that if the new strike lasts long, it could push back the release of GTA 6 (scheduled for fall 2025) and other major projects.
Interestingly, earlier Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that no SAG-AFTRA strike would affect GTA 6, but these words were spoken before the official announcement of the game.
It is worth noting that last year there was already a strike by the Screen Actors Guild, which lasted 118 days. This, by the way, affected the premieres of some films.
