Japanese Developers Name the Best Games of 2024: Black Myth: Wukong Takes Fifth Place
The Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed the results of its annual survey, featuring input from 181 industry professionals, including developers, actors, and bloggers. Each participant was asked to list their top five favorite games of 2024, with the final rankings compiled from their responses.
This year, the top spot went to Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The updated version of the classic 1988 RPG has charmed longtime fans while also drawing in a new audience—an impressive feat 36 years after its original release.
Second place was awarded to the platformer Astro Bot, which also won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. The remaining top spots were claimed by Metaphor: ReFantasio from the creators of the Persona series, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Black Myth: Wukong.
Famitsu's Best Games of 2024:
In previous years, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took the top spot, following winners like Elden Ring, Resident Evil Village, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, and Marvel's Spider-Man.
