Hidetaka Miyazaki Shares Details of The Duskbloods and Reassures Fans — FromSoftware Won't Abandon Single-Player Games

The unexpected announcement of the cooperative action game The Duskbloods puzzled some FromSoftware fans. Players decided that the studio was now gravitating towards multiplayer, but Hidetaka Miyazaki was quick to dispel the conclusions.
In a large interview with Nintendo, the game designer and president of FromSoftware said that the studio is not going to focus only on multiplayer projects. In fact, the team decided to experiment with existing ideas:
Yes, I’ve always found the PvPvE structure very interesting. It allows for a broad range of game-design ideas, while also letting us leverage our experience of designing challenging enemy encounters.
As a side note, please allow me to address one thing. As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward.
Among other things, the game designer revealed new details about The Duskbloods. Players will control followers of the Bloodsworn cult, whose members have achieved superhuman powers with the help of special blood. These are not vampires in the traditional sense, but something close to them. The main goal of the heroes will be the so-called First Blood, which can be obtained during periods of decline of human civilization. So there is no specific era in the game — rather, a mixture of them is presented from traditional Gothic to the end of the 19th century.
Other details of the game, voiced in the interview:
- all character movements will be dynamic, which emphasizes their inhuman powers;
- the player will be given a choice of more than 12 heroes;
- the reward will be given out in the hub regardless of whether you win or lose the match;
- for some matches, you will need to fulfill certain conditions;
- players will be able to summon entities to help in battle;
- gamers will be able to enjoy not only battles, but also searching for lore details — including through character customization;
- during matches, some events will occur that affect battles — for example, the appearance of a giant face in the sky;
- depending on the chosen role, players can unexpectedly find an opponent or play in tandem with someone else to get a special reward.
The Duskbloods will be released in 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Let us remind you that several ports were previously announced for the new console, including Elden Ring from the same FromSoftware. More details about the results of Nintendo Direct were told here.
