Disney has released the animated blockbuster Zootopia 2 in digital format on January 27, 2026, two months after its theatrical premiere.
Zootopia 2 became one of the biggest hits of 2025, earning $1.744 billion at the global box office. The film ranked second among the highest-grossing animated movies of all time (behind the Chinese animated film Ne Zha Conquers the Dragon King), became the highest-grossing project in the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios, and the highest-grossing American animated film ever. The movie also set a new opening record for an animated film, bringing in $560.3 million during its first five days in theaters.
The sequel received positive reviews from critics (91% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 219 reviews) and audiences (96% on the same platform). It was nominated for the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Critics’ Choice Awards in the Best Animated Feature category. At the Golden Globes, the film also received a nomination for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
The story takes place one week after Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde officially become partners in the Zootopia Police Department. Their clashing personalities complicate their work together, and Chief Bogo threatens to split them up if they fail to resolve their differences. Instead, the duo becomes entangled in a mysterious case involving a member of a forbidden species. During the investigation, Judy and Nick themselves are framed and must restore not only their own reputations, but that of an entire people.
The original voice cast returned, including Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy, Jason Bateman as Nick, and Shakira as Gazelle, who also recorded a new song titled “Zoo” co-written with Ed Sheeran. New characters are voiced by Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake and Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby.
It was previously reported that a third installment has already entered development, with the creators promising that the wait will not be as long this time. Additionally, the filmmakers have hinted at a possible cameo by Keanu Reeves.
