Nintendo is reportedly talking with Samsung Display about a Switch 2 revision that would use a rigid OLED panel, according to ZDNet Korea. The panel would also reportedly support Full HD resolution, but Nintendo has not made a final decision yet.
The main hurdle appears to be cost. OLED panels are more expensive than the LCD displays currently used in Switch 2, and sources say Nintendo is also dealing with rising memory and component costs.
One anonymous industry source said Nintendo is considering rigid OLED for Switch 2, but the release has not been confirmed because of the price gap versus LCD products. The same source also said the upgrade would move the screen from HD (1280×720) to FHD (1920×1080).
Samsung Display is described as a leading candidate to supply the panels. The rumor also follows earlier reports that Samsung wanted its OLED panels included in a future Switch 2 revision, suggesting the discussion has been underway for some time.
If the plan is approved, development of the Switch 2 OLED model could begin near the end of 2026. Mass production is then reported as possible in late 2027 or early 2028, so the device is still a long way off.
For now, Nintendo seems to be weighing the upgrade carefully rather than rushing into a new version. The central question is whether an OLED Switch 2 would be worth the higher retail price.
