How to Reset Skill Points in Elden Ring: Where to Find Larval Tears

In Elden Ring, players often encounter tough enemies and fierce bosses, defeating whom may require a change in tactics. The choice of weapons, equipment, and spells depends not only on the specific region of the Lands Between and playstyle but can also be dictated by the requirements for certain hero skills. In this guide, we'll explain how to change your character's attributes without the need to start the game over.

Resetting skills is one of the many interesting mechanics in FromSoftware's games, allowing for the redistribution of hero skills if, for some reason, it seems necessary. For example, in Dark Souls 2, this was managed by the fire keepers, while in other Soulsborne games, this feature isn't available at all.

However, in Elden Ring, this mechanic has become more important than ever, as defeating some of the toughest bosses in the later stages of the game requires a specific build of the hero.

To gain the ability to change the Tarnished's attributes, you need to do two things:

  1. Defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon;
  2. Find a larval tear.

Where to Find and How to Defeat Queen Rennala in Elden Ring

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, is located in the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria Academy. Unlike the fights with Margit or Godrick, this is a relatively easy battle, especially for characters oriented towards melee combat.

The battle with Rennala is divided into two phases. The first is more of a puzzle than a fight, and the second is a duel under the moonlight, requiring dodging many magical projectiles.

During the battle, you cannot summon helpers, but you can summon creatures from ash. We recommend using Godrick's soldiers or lone wolves, as they effectively interrupt Rennala's spell casting. So, save your summons for the second phase of the fight.

First, you need to break the queen's shield and make her vulnerable to attacks. To do this, each time you must find and destroy three singing minions emitting light. The rest will use magic and release flame.

If you stick to an aggressive strategy during the second phase, you can quickly defeat the sorceress and end the fight before she uses her most powerful spells. The demigoddess is almost immune to magic, so the best strategy is to deal physical damage.

After the sorceress is defeated, you can find her right there, at the battle site in the library. In conversation with her, you need to choose the option to be reborn. This is exactly where the larval tear is needed. You will pay with one of these items each time you want to redistribute skills. It's not that they are scarce, you just need to know where to look.

What are Larval Tears and Where to Find Them in Elden Ring

The most accessible place to find a Larval Tear early on is the Albinauric Village in the southern part of Liurnia of the Lakes. The required location is to the southwest of the Site of Grace Lake-Facing Cliffs and west of the Laskyar Ruins. Once you emerge from the swamp, you will need to climb up the winding path to the village itself. A landmark can be the warrior Nepheli, sitting by a fire. Passing her, you should come to a place with several enemies near stone sarcophagi. The Larval Tear will be on a body next to a hut.

Later in the game, depending on the path you choose, you can find many Larval Tears. One of the best ways is to kill the sentient stone boulders you'll encounter in Nokstella, Eternal City by the River Ansel. You can get there as part of the quest to find the Dark Moon Greatsword or by doing tasks for the sorceress Ranni.

Other places where you can find Larval Tears:

  • Can be purchased for 3000 runes from a merchant on the Siofra River. You can reach him by the scaffolding near one of the columns southwest of the Followers' Forest. If you hear a violin, you're on the right track;
  • Can be purchased for 3000 runes from Pidia, Servant in Caria Manor. You can get to her by jumping onto the manor walls from the Three Sisters location, northeast of Seluvis's Tower;
  • Drops from the boss False Tear in the temple of the same name in the location Nokron, Eternal City;
  • Drops from a silver tear, disguised as a sentient boulder, in the location Night's Sacred Ground;
  • Drops from silver tears, disguised as sentient boulders, in Nokstella, Eternal City;
  • Drops from an augmented offspring, disguised as a giant lobster, which can be found between the Shrimp Boiling Hut and the Rose Church;
  • Drops from a troll, disguised as an undead soldier at the cemetery south of the South Starcrown Plains in the region of Caelid;
  • Can be found on a corpse in a gazebo in the location Nokron, Eternal City;
  • Can be found on a corpse inside a stone building in Nokron;
  • Can be found to the east of Caria Manor in the cemetery after defeating Loretta, Knight of the Royal Guard.
