This Table Wirelessly Powers All Your Computer Gear — No Cables Needed
Etherdyne Technologies has presented a real-life example of a fully wireless workspace setup. At the heart of the demonstration is an ordinary 120x60 cm table that hides a new type of power source beneath its surface.
Instead of traditional sockets and cables, this setup utilizes long-range wireless power transmission technology. A flexible emitter loop creates a coverage area, delivering up to 100 watts of power. This is sufficient to power a wireless mouse, keyboard, speakers, microphone, and even a 24-inch monitor simultaneously. Unlike smartphone wireless chargers, this technology operates at a distance of up to one meter, and devices do not need to be precisely positioned above the “charging pad”; it’s enough to be within the coverage area.
To make the peripherals work wirelessly, some modifications were made. The mouse battery was replaced with a receiving coil. The monitor stand was equipped with two receiving coils, each providing 7 watts of power. A standard wireless HDMI adapter was used for the display connection. The speakers and microphone were custom-built using 3D-printed parts and wireless power-enabled components.
The Wire-Free Power Zone technology is not yet commercially available. Interested developers can request a test kit from Etherdyne. The company addresses concerns about electromagnetic radiation with FCC and CE safety certifications. While the demonstration focuses on office applications, the startup sees potential for this technology in industrial, commercial, and medical sectors. The ability to transmit 100 watts of power over such distances represents a significant advancement in wireless power transmission.
