WhatsApp users on Android might soon find it easier to craft messages in chats. Beta testers discovered the messaging app is trialing a built-in AI helper designed to assist with writing messages.
After typing just 3-4 words in a chat, users might notice the sticker icon transform into a pen icon. Tapping this launches the AI assistant. Instantly, the AI offers 3-5 alternative phrasings designed to make the original text shorter, reword it, or adjust it to sound more professional or informal. The user remains in control, deciding whether to send the original or pick one of the AI's suggestions.
The key feature of this AI helper is Meta Private Processing technology. Text selected for optimization is encrypted and sent anonymously for processing through a dedicated infrastructure. WhatsApp assures users that neither the original message nor the AI-generated alternatives are accessible to developers or Meta, and the request/response data isn't stored on servers.
The feature is off by default and must be manually activated in WhatsApp's settings. Currently in beta testing, access is limited even for users who have installed WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.23.7.
This assistant won't just benefit those in a rush. It could help users express thoughts more precisely, find the right words for professional communication, or simply save time on everyday replies. The main question remains: just how "human" the AI's suggestions will feel.
