ChatGPT Can Now Virtually Try On Clothes and Accessories
OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT beyond text and image generation with tools aimed at shopping. On October 1, the company rolled out virtual try-on and Favorites globally, letting users preview clothing and accessories on their own photos and save products for later.
Users can upload a selfie or full-body photo, then select Try On in shopping results to see how an item might look on them. ChatGPT can also try on an item from an uploaded image, such as a screenshot of a webpage. The new Favorites feature lets users save products to an in-app Library alongside the generated try-on images.
The shopping tools use ChatGPT Images 2.5, which OpenAI introduced as an image model with more natural lighting and richer textures. OpenAI says it follows editing instructions more reliably and reduces image-generation latency.
The features also support fashion discovery: users can search for clothing shown in celebrity outfit photos or describe a style and ask ChatGPT to find pieces that could complete the look. That puts ChatGPT in a space long dominated by Pinterest and Google, which launched its own virtual try-on feature in 2025.
Earlier, ChatGPT learns to try on clothes from photos directly in chat.
OpenAI had previously pivoted away from an instant-checkout feature for ChatGPT after it did not perform well. Will virtual try-on make ChatGPT a useful fashion-discovery tool, or will shoppers stick with the services they already use?
