Top 100: Best Co-Op Games in 2024
Overcooked 2
- Genre: Action, Casual
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players
Overcooked 2 turns gamers into chefs who must hurriedly prepare extraordinary orders for customers and thereby... save the world. It might seem that chopping cabbage, frying meat, and washing dishes are not the most fun activities, but Team17 even makes these tasks exciting.
While the game starts with the simplest tasks that even a solo player can handle, with each new level the dishes become more elaborate, and the cooking requires coordinated teamwork. The locations also offer surprises: you'll have to cook between two constantly moving trucks, on a slippery ice floe, or aboard a ship rocking on the waves. All this has made Overcooked 2 a multi-million copy bestseller.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2
- Genre: Action
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 4 players
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a cooperative first-person action game in which survival is only possible through cohesive team play. In the game, players will dive into non-stop slashing through hordes of the vile, where they must skillfully wield weapons and cover their companions.
To ensure the endless battle doesn't wear out gamers, the developers actively support the game, adding new professions, weather conditions, and cosmetic items — and seasons periodically change, throwing new challenges at the fighters.
A Way Out
- Genre: Action, Adventure
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 2 players
A Way Out is the second project by Josef Fares in our selection, after It Takes Two. The game, released in 2018, impressed a multitude of players. Leo and Vincent, the partners in crime, had to face numerous adversities: escaping from prison, enduring a hail of bullets, evading pursuit, and never forgetting the ones they love.
Players often found themselves arguing and making choices, as well as participating in fun mini-games. The game also boasts an engaging story that, while not groundbreaking, still shocks with a touching finale. A Way Out is an absolute «must-have» for fans of cooperative games.
Far Cry 5
- Genre: Action
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 2 players, online multiplayer for 8 players
As the world awaits the release of Far Cry 6, much of which is already known, there's no need to waste time and one could revisit the previous installment of the franchise. Far Cry 5 has everything gamers love about the series: a huge sandbox with numerous outposts, off-the-rails characters with insane tasks, and hundreds of ways to entertain oneself. Playing the game is fun alone, but cooperative play offers much more enjoyment.
Moreover, purchasing Far Cry 5 is a good investment, as just the main story takes about 17 hours to complete, and exploring the entire world can take infinitely longer.

- Genre: Racing, Arcade
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 2 players, online multiplayer for up to 32 players

State of Decay 2
- Genre: Action, Survival, Role-Playing Game
- Platforms: PC and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 4 players
State of Decay 2 is a survival game that doesn't fixate on the genre's specifics. To survive, you'll need to gather supplies, build a community, find allies, develop your base, and, of course, fight zombies. However, the most terrifying aspect of the game is the people: troubles can come from other communities as well as comrades sharing your shelter.
State of Decay 2 keeps players on edge: it's impossible to completely secure the camp, dwindling local resources force you to venture further, and the dangers do not decrease. Fortunately, you can endure hardships in the company of reliable friends.
Monster Hunter: World
- Genre: Action, Role-Playing Game
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 4 players
Monster Hunter: World is Capcom's best-selling game in history, with more than 14 million copies sold. And that's in a portfolio that includes titles like Resident Evil and Street Fighter. The creation about monster hunters has many merits: take, for example, the impressive bestiary, refined gameplay, adorable cat chefs, and a well-developed lore. Plus, you can go through Monster Hunter: World with friends.
Of course, at first, you need to get used to the Japanese project, but have no doubt: soon the game will fully engage you, and after a hundred hours, you'll find yourself reaching for the expansive DLC Iceborne.
Frantics (2018)
- Genre: Action, Arcade
- Platforms: PlayStation 4
- Multiplayer: Local co-op for 4 players
Frantics is a PlayStation exclusive that you play with mobile phones instead of gamepads. The game features a multitude of engaging mini-games, which can be won not only through skill but also through cunning. Nothing stops you from betraying a friend at the last moment to snatch the coveted victory.
There are plenty of activities in Frantics, the game doesn't require special preparation, and it's great entertainment for a group. The main thing is that everyone knows how to lose and keeps their sense of humor.
Raft
- Genre: Action, Survival, Adventure
- Platforms: PC
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 4 players
Raft is still in early access but has already earned the status of a game phenomenon. In the story, the characters find themselves on a raft in the middle of the ocean: it seems there is no hope for salvation, but resourceful gamers will likely not only survive but also manage to thrive, while fending off the bloodthirsty fauna.
Raft is considered one of the best games in the survival genre, combining the spirit of adventure with numerous deep mechanics: from building and crafting to underwater hunting. Developers regularly add something new to the game, and gamers have already forgotten that there hasn't been a full release yet.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
- Genre: Role-Playing Game
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best isometric RPGs in history. The game's merits include excellent graphics, a deep combat system, sophisticated leveling, and a dramatic story. The quests are also well-crafted: anyone who completes the task of the partner Lohse will be tormented by moral dilemmas for a long time.
Larian Studios managed to create a masterpiece, the completion of which will take about 100 hours. And if you want more, you can also appreciate the first part — it's also very good. It seems that only the upcoming Baldur's Gate 3 might overshadow this duology.
Super Mario Odyssey
- Genre: Platformer
- Platforms: Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Local co-op for 2 players
Released in 2017, Super Mario Odyssey surpassed the ten million copies mark within a year and became one of Nintendo's flagship exclusives. In the game, players challenge the cunning villain Bowser: to win, they'll have to solve puzzles, defeat thousands of enemies, and collect hundreds of Moons. A second player can help in this challenging journey by becoming... a cap. Don't worry, the gameplay is fun.
Devoted Mario fans will be especially delighted by levels inspired by past games in the series. If you have a Nintendo Switch, purchasing Super Mario Odyssey is nothing short of mandatory.
Sniper Elite 4
- Genre: Action, Simulation
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 2 players and online multiplayer for up to 12 players
Sniper Elite 4 is the perfect sniper game that combines meditative tactical gameplay with dynamic combat. To liberate countries occupied by the Nazis, the hero must scout the terrain, mark targets, and methodically eliminate them with a sniper rifle, masking shots with the noise of explosions or passing airplanes. However, some missions require sneaking behind enemy lines and, for example, planting mines right under their noses or clearing outposts with a machine gun in hand.
An elite soldier can handle any task alone, but the help of a faithful comrade will never be amiss. Just be prepared that a pair of snipers will face a particularly fierce resistance from the enemy.
Dark Souls 3
- Genre: Action, Souls-like
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for up to 3 players
Could Hidetaka Miyazaki have imagined that the experimental Demon's Souls would create a new popular genre that would immerse millions of gamers in a world of exquisite suffering? Many fans consider Dark Souls 3 to be the pinnacle of the master's work, combining a well-crafted lore, magnificent locations, a great variety of enemies, and high difficulty. Though if a boss seems insurmountable, you can always call a friend for help and together take the fight to the fiends.
You can venture into dangers in a company of up to four people, but summoning them into your world is not so simple: first, you need to reach the Temple and acquire a White Sign Soapstone there.
No Man's Sky
- Genre: Action, Adventure, Space
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for up to 4 players
The game has a huge amount of content, so if you like the space setting, the spirit of exploration, resource gathering, and constant development, you should definitely take a closer look.
Sid Meier's Civilization 6
- Genre: Strategy
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 6 players, online multiplayer for 12 players
Sid Meier's Civilization 6 can captivate you for a long time, whether you're competing against AI or rivaling live players. Gathering with friends on a single server, choosing your favorite faction, and trying to be the first to achieve triumph is an exciting endeavor.
When setting up a joint campaign, you can select scenarios that significantly diversify the process. Moreover, the developers have significantly improved the technical component: now, the host's disconnection won't lead to catastrophic consequences.
Killing Floor 2
- Genre: Action
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 6 players, online multiplayer for 12 players
If you prefer uncompromising action over intellectual battles, take a look at Killing Floor 2. In this cooperative shooter, you can whirl through a variety of locations and tear countless enemies to pieces: from ordinary zombies to huge, powerful beasts.
The gameplay of Killing Floor 2 is highly dynamic: enemies do not leave the fighters alone for a minute, and the challenges only become more serious. You can hold back the advancing hordes of monsters in a company of up to six people.

- Genre: Adventure
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players
Don't Starve Together is a stylish game with a unique art style. Players will have to battle peculiar enemies, explore a procedurally generated world, gather resources, craft powerful equipment, and, of course, feed the heroes by tending to their own farm. The longer you survive in the hostile world, the more it wants to finish you off.
Klei Entertainment's creation has become an incredible hit, amassing about 170,000 reviews, 96 percent of which are positive. Take a closer look at Don't Starve Together: the game is a true emerald among cooperative entertainments.
Stardew Valley
- Genre: Simulator, Farm, Role-playing game
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players
Stardew Valley is a farmer simulator that more than 10 million people have already enjoyed playing. Perhaps you should also give this unique project a try. In the story, a group of friends inherits one of five farms and must turn the withering, weed-infested land into a thriving area.
To achieve their goal, players will need to interact with NPCs, start families and have children, fish, cook, craft, and even explore vast mines. The game may sound simple in words, but in practice, each mechanic is deep and well-executed.
Dying Light
- Genre: Action
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
- Multiplayer: Online co-op for 4 players
Dying Light maintains a brisk pace throughout the entire story campaign. Perhaps the game lacks a coherent story, but this shortfall is compensated by a multitude of cool mechanics. If Techland's creation is to your liking, then pay attention to the expansions: they are masterfully done.
Rocket League
- Genre: Arcade, Racing, Sports
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players, online multiplayer for 8 players
Rocket League is a competitive game that offers you to dive into the most unusual soccer match of your life. Instead of traditional athletes, little cars take the field, aiming to roll a huge ball into the opponent's goal. You can experience the joy of victory and the bitterness of defeat with both random players and friends.
Last year, the project became free to play. Are there any reasons left not to give Rocket League your attention?
Magicka 2
- Genre: Action, Adventure
- Platforms: PC and PlayStation 4
- Multiplayer: Local co-op and online co-op for 4 players
The world of Magicka 2 may be colorful, but it's filled with evil and horrors. Sinister wizards have destroyed a great city, and hostile creatures trample the land — only a quartet of brave mages, armed with an impressive array of spells, can rectify the situation.
Just remember, as you turn another location into a scorched field, that Magicka 2 features «friendly fire», meaning both enemies and allies can fall victim to your magic.
Divinity: Original Sin
- Genre: Role-playing, Turn-based, Strategy
- Platforms: PC
- Multiplayer: Online and local network co-op for 4 players, split-screen for 2 players
Divinity: Original Sin is an old-school RPG, meaning it features tactical turn-based combat, exploration of a vast open world, and the ability to interact with any items and characters. In some ways, the game can be seen as an attempt to «digitize» the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
The main character is a Source Hunter, a seeker of ancient and forbidden magic. Someone has used it to commit murder, and the investigation will lead us to the most unexpected places. There are no limitations — go anywhere, talk to any character, and solve problems in the most unusual ways.
Valuable loot, combinations of spells and skills, countless ways to interact with the game world — there's even a video online where players kill one of the bosses by piling paintings on it using telekinesis.
So if you're looking for a project where you can demonstrate cunning and unconventional thinking, Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel are what you need. The game can be played both online and in local co-op.
