Dance Dance Revolution Universe is a rhythm game built around dancing to more than 65 songs, including licensed tracks, popular hits, and music and remixes exclusive to the game. Beginner-focused options include tutorial, trial, and super-easy modes, while nonstop megamixes combine several songs into continuous DJ-style sets.

Relay mode turns play into a dance marathon, with teammates taking turns. Workout, Edit, Quest, and Party modes are also available. Online features include head-to-head competitions, rankings, messaging, and the ability to download songs and dance steps or upload content.
