This walk of memory, commemorating the atrocities of the Great War, creates links to landmarks on the horizon. Piercing the sky with their verticality, they are located on the ridges of the Lorette and Vimy hills, standing at heights of 190 and 145 meters above sea level, respectively. Analyzing the terrains of Artois reveals a third hill, abandoned yet serving as a living symbol of the remnants of the region's history – the canonical Abbey of Mont-Saint-Éloi. This building was not reconstructed after the war to honor the bravery of the soldiers who perished on the front lines for their homeland. As mentioned, the abbey was used by the French and British armies to observe the advance of German troops.
