Sven Vincke on the new Larian Studios game: «I don't want to do the same thing»
GRY Online spoke with the head of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, during Digital Dragons 2024, asking several questions about new projects from the creators of Baldur's Gate 3. The game designer explained under what code name the new game is being developed and what it could be.
In an interview, Sven Vincke admitted that development is at a very early stage, and he can say little for now:
In a conversation with the publication, he nevertheless hinted in which direction the studio would like to move. Most likely, the new Larian game will not be a turn-based RPG, like the previous Baldur's Gate 3 and the last two Divinity: Original Sin.
Sven Vincke also said that a new game is being developed under the code name «Excalibur» in honor of the name of his dog. This is a tribute to the tradition that developed during the creation of Baldur's Gate 3, which at the very beginning was called «Project Gustav» — exactly the same as the name of one of the studio head's dogs.
Let us remember that in April Larian Studios announced the start of development of two new games. Then Sven Vincke called future projects «our best work in history.»
