The Caged Magistrate: Dragon's Dogma 2 Walkthrough Guide

This guide delves into the «The Caged Magistrate» quest in Dragon's Dogma 2, where players must infiltrate a dungeon to free a well-meaning magistrate who has become an obstacle to the regent's schemes. We will provide detailed instructions on how to locate the correct cell and the safest method to liberate the magistrate. You'll learn the best tactics for avoiding guards, navigating the dungeon's complex layout, and successfully executing the rescue to ensure the magistrate's safety and further your cause in the game.

How to complete The Caged Magistrate quest

Another task offered by Captain Brant. According to him, a statesman who could serve the true king is locked in the dungeon. You should sneak in there and free him. However, doing so is not as easy as it might seem at first glance.

How to get to Valdar in the dungeon

Brant will give you the key to the dungeon and command his men not to attack the Arisen, but you still need to act quickly. If you try to talk to any of the guards or they see you unlocking the cells with the key, they will immediately attack you. Additionally, if you simply stay in the dungeon for too long, the guard will also become aggressive.

Once you're in the cell block, go down the stairs and open the first door on the right. Wait for the guards to move away before you approach. Talk to Valdar and choose how to proceed: release him or silence him. The first option leads to better outcomes and also unlocks an additional quest.

How to find the place with many books

If you choose to free the magistrate, the task changes. Now you need to find a place with many books. Exit the cell and run in the opposite direction from the entrance. Use the key on the grate, go down the long staircase, and exit through the slums side (here you'll also need to open the grate with Brant's key).

You will see several ruined houses and a large church building. To the left of the church entrance stands a priest asking for alms. First, donate food, then money (1000 gold). This will start the quest «The Heel of History».

After completing this task and finding the ancient library, return to the dungeon, open the grate again, and release the old man. Quickly escort him to the slum side exit. Here, he will stop the Arisen and express his gratitude. All that remains is for you to report everything back to Captain Brant.

As a reward for completing the quest, you will receive a teleportation stone, 7000 gold, and 1200 experience points. By the way, you'll also need to return the dungeon key — don't sell it!
