Proto-Amourworm in Black Myth: Wukong — What It Is and How to Find It

Proto-Amourworm and rice cocoons are two of the most exotic items from the Webbed Hollow in Black Myth: Wukong, and they are both related to the Elder Amourworm quest. This guide will show and explain where to find the Proto-Amourworm, how to use it, and the rice cocoons to unlock a special spirit.

How to Get the Proto-Amourworm

The first item to find is the Proto-Amourworm, which is located in the Webbed Hollow. You can obtain it by defeating the Elder Amourworm boss, located at the Leafy Bridge in the Webbed Hollow.

Start your journey from the Keeper's Shrine, cross the bridge, and go left from where the Grasshopper Guai appears.

Continue along the path and you will see a room on the right filled with chests (a total of five), one of which contains a new medicine recipe. Go to the other side of the room through the web, and you will reach the Elder Amourworm.

This boss is a giant worm that can spray a large amount of poison around itself. The strategy to defeat it is quite simple:

  1. Try to dodge the first attack; the boss will throw webbing and then quickly dive towards the hero. You need to dodge the hit.
  2. After a few attacks, the worm falls to the ground. Use this time wisely to attack it as much as possible and deal maximum damage.

When the Elder Amourworm starts spraying poison and swinging its limbs, you need to move away to a safe distance. Once the boss finishes its attack, it will be unable to move for a short period; hit it during this time.

After defeating the boss, the Proto-Amourworm will drop from it.

How to Get Rice Cocoons

The second item you need is rice cocoons. You can find them while exploring the Webbed Hollow. You will need a total of three rice cocoons to complete the Elder Amourworm quest. Simply break the cocoons you encounter along the way.

How to Get the Elder Amourworm Spirit

With both key items in your possession (three rice cocoons and the Proto-Amourworm), you can start the Elder Amourworm quest. However, you first need to unlock the Ruyi Scroll Secret Area, a special place where all the merchants and vendors in the game gather. Unlocking the Ruyi Scroll is tied to the Chen Loong questline — read the detailed guide on this topic here.

After unlocking the Ruyi Scroll, visit Chen Loong at the shrine. If you have the Proto-Amourworm in your inventory, he will ask to take it. Rest at the Keeper's Shrine and then return.

To the right of the baskets will be the Proto-Amourworm, which looks tiny and completely harmless, unlike the worm you fought earlier.

You need to feed the Proto-Amourworm three rice cocoons, and after it eats them, rest again at the Keeper's Shrine. After doing so, a purple spirit of the Elder Amourworm will appear in place of the Proto-Amourworm.

What the Elder Amourworm Spirit Is For

The Elder Amourworm Spirit transforms the character into a massive, unwieldy form of a giant worm, the same type you fought in the Webbed Hollow.

The main attack of the Elder Amourworm Spirit is Foul Spray: the worm sprays poison from its tail, and numerous poison puddles remain on the ground for a considerable time, allowing you to poison multiple enemies at once (a classic AOE attack). As a passive effect, the spirit increases the critical hit chance when in a poisoned state.

***

The Elder Amourworm Spirit is not the strongest in the game, but it is excellent for creating a range of interesting builds based on AOE poison damage.
