The reaper career is a new feature in the The Sims 4: Life & Death expansion. It offers Sims the opportunity to assist Death as Grimterm, teaching them the art of soul collection and determining the cause of death for ghosts. Gamers can also visit the Underworld by visiting the Department of Death. In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about the reaper job.

How to Join the Reaper Job

As with any other job, press the Find a Job key. In the menu that opens on the left, select Reaper and then confirm your choice by clicking the checkmark. Characters with the Grim and Focused traits are more predisposed to this profession. They are more inclined to work with the afterlife and will experience fewer negative effects from proximity to death.

Tasks as a Reaper

Every day your sim will need to complete several tasks to increase their efficiency and advance through the levels — from bronze to gold. On your first visit to work, you will be shown how to collect souls using a special training dummy. Most of the time, a reaper's workdays follow a similar schedule. You will need to learn the work plan and the main tasks for the day using the Scry Bowl.

Before completing tasks, you will have the opportunity to practice on the dummy to hone your skills. It is crucial to regularly maintain your scythe to keep it in perfect condition. When you are ready to go to work, simply press the Scry for Travel button in the bowl.

Note: If you cannot find a sim whose life is nearing its end, click on your character. This will move the camera to the desired target, helping you continue the task.

You may also need to clean up after an event with many casualties, such as a Laughter Disaster at a comedy club or a Cowplant Emergency.

Sometimes you will receive tasks with emotional harvesting, meaning the disaster affected a well-known Sims NPC. Upon arrival, you will be able to listen to a request from one of their loved ones and decide the sim's fate yourself.

When completing reaper tasks, upon arriving at the dead sim, you need to examine the body to determine the cause of death. Each NPC will have a unique cause, so do not look for any pattern or logical chain. After determining the cause, you may be tasked with talking to witnesses, requesting an investigation, or delivering the ashes to the deceased's family.

Returning to the office, you will be able to release the collected souls through the Underworld Portal. Additionally, the computer will have the function to send a death certificate.

If you manage to complete the shift on time, you will need to talk to colleagues, create cleaning schedules, analyze mortality trends, or order office supplies through the computer.

Lost Souls

Grim may assign you to take care of runaway souls that have infiltrated the mortal world. For this task, you will go to the specified location where you will look for Blue Netherworld Fissures. These fissures need to be sealed to restore the disrupted boundaries between worlds.

During your work, you will also encounter ethereal orbs — lost souls that need to be collected. There are usually more than required to complete the task, but any excess will help you quickly fulfill the quota and increase your efficiency.

There is also an additional task — harvesting Grimbrosia for Grim himself. These plants can be found on the lot and are easily recognizable by their light pink and white flowers. When you return to headquarters, you will need to prepare Grimbrosia in the kitchen and deliver the finished dish to Grim.

Department Malfunction

From time to time, players may be sent on an emergency task to the headquarters. In this case, you will not be able to collect souls for the day. Instead, you will have to complete a different set of tasks, which may be in the headquarters or another location. Sometimes, upon arriving at work, you may find yourself in a terrible place — with netherworld fissures, a mischievous ghost that needs to be eliminated, as well as broken bowl and portal. In such cases, you will need to put everything in order and fix the malfunctions using your craftsmanship skills or even magic.

Weekly Soul Quota

You can check the weekly soul quota by selecting Check Soul Quota on the computer. If you successfully complete all tasks, you can receive a reward of 25 souls.
