Split Fiction: Hopes of Spring — Chapter 3 Walkthrough

The Hopes of Spring chapter begins with a story where the first character can transform into various animals, while the second can become mythical creatures. This story in Split Fiction is entirely dedicated to Zoe, however, you can find optional missions. Here's how to complete the chapter.

To overcome obstacles, the first hero uses the form of a gorilla and a fish, while the second becomes a fairy and a giant walking tree. Note that if the first player tries to enter the water in the form of a monkey, they will die.

The Underlands

Proceed forward each on your own path, and when you reunite, you'll need to help each other. The second player transforms into a tree and activates a trampoline so that the first character, in the form of a gorilla, can grab onto a sheer cliff and lower an improvised basket down.

A little further, when the game turns into a 2D platformer, take the form of a gorilla and hit the tree roots, thus rotating them and opening a path for your ally. Then the second player, in the form of a fairy, uses the flower streams, while the first character overcomes obstacles in the form of a fish.

Lord Evergreen

When you reunite with your partner, Zoe jumps onto the tree trunk in the water and uses the stick to avoid the tentacles placed along the path. You will need to move up or down and dodge to the sides. The first character must drag the trunk forward all this time. When you reach a dead end, find a grapple on the wall to the left, where you can latch on and run forward along the wall. This will lead you to a portal, which will take you to the boss location.

Side Mission. Train Heist. How to Defeat the Conductor Boss

Glide down until a machine laying traps appears in your path. Head into the blue tunnel, which will lead you to a tunnel with trains. Dodge the approaching trains, including flying under the platforms. Once you exit the tunnel, grab onto a nearby passing train and dodge the projectiles from the enemy machine.

When the train disappears into the tunnel, you'll have another opportunity to use the glider. Land on the cars and move forward, trying to avoid the missiles until you find yourself in front of two small flying machines.

At this point, the game will change genre again, this time into a 2D platformer similar to Cuphead. Look for empty spaces between enemy projectiles to avoid damage and pick up power-ups. Soon the enemy will be above you, but players can only attack in front of them. You'll need to climb higher or wait for the boss to descend again.

Mother Earth

Return to the water and find the poles you can use to cross the tentacles. Overcome the ravine and then activate the golden stream for the fairy. When the second player reaches the flower, they can regulate the growth of the purple plants so that the first character in the form of a gorilla can cross them.

After overcoming the obstacle, activate the next golden stream and proceed to another location. Here you will find several chicks, one of which is still in the shell. First, the player in the form of a gorilla lowers the log so that Zoe can grab it with a flower. Then the first character carries the chick to the nest opposite the suspended log and waits while the second gamer pulls it slightly. Now the gorilla jumps and hits the wooden platform — this way the chick will fly higher, and in the meantime, Zoe releases the log and it strikes the chick in the shell, opening the passage.

Walking Stick of Doom

Enter the giant tree and reach the vine with a purple glow. Get rid of it using the monkey's ability, then watch the cutscene. After the video ends, the first player should control their hero as usual, but the second gamer directly influences the environment.

You can raise and lower spikes, rotate stands, and extend platforms. All this needs to be done together and synchronously so that the first player reaches the top and climbs the huge tree trunk. When this happens, rotate the tree trunk for the first hero and also extend the platforms in time.

A little later, the game will again turn into a 2D platformer. The main character is the first player, but the second still helps the friend using the environment. First, clear the path of bugs using plants, then catch the monkey with another flower and throw it further.

Reaching the water, the first character turns into an amphibian, move the partition so that he can move to another pool. Then the player will face infinitely appearing enemies. Use the action button to create algae where a friend can hide from them.

Additional Quest. Gameshow

After the previous segment, walk across the large suspension bridge, but do not rush to use the grabs at the turn to the right. This way you will definitely miss the additional mission. To activate it, follow to the left, to the purple glow. This element will stand out from the overall setting.

The rules of this game are quite simple: in each round, one of the players takes a bomb that can detonate after a while. To prevent this from happening, throw the item to a partner, so the countdown resets. However, it will be easy only on the first few levels, the game becomes more difficult later on.

In each round, your task is to safely reach the hatch with the bomb and place it in the tank. By the third round, you will encounter a barrier between the characters in the form of a large glass. To pass the explosive to each other, use the trampolines, which are shaped like green circles on the platforms. It's important to act together; otherwise, you won't be able to pass the bomb to your partner. We recommend not rushing, as you are not limited by time, only by the countdown to the device's explosion.

In the next round, run to the first turn and throw the charge to your friend, then move to the next position. Receive the charge here and jump to the next platform to pass it again. Throw the bomb after the next turn and interact with the hatch.

The fifth round will be easy, but you need to know a few nuances. First, do not run parallel to each other: the character with the bomb should best pull the opponent away from the friend, then pass the bomb. After doing this, close the distance to the hatch and receive the charge to return it back or set it if you managed to jump onto the platform with the hatch.

The sixth round is the penultimate one. Here you also need to synchronously reach the hatch and open it, throwing the charge inside.

In the final round, approach the first obstacle, pass the charge, and go through the trap. Your partner does the same, but we recommend catching the bomb and waiting for your friend to cross, then return it, overcome the trap, and take the charge back. Climbing higher, continue passing the bomb to each other until you reach the hatch on the host's head.

Silly Monkeys

Return to the fork on the right and activate the huge tree trunk. Zoe must control it and also destroy obstacles in the way. Meanwhile, Mio repels enemies that appear nearby and try to interfere with the tree control. We recommend the player in the form of a gorilla to stand close to the partner and simply spam the attack button (R2). This way, no one can approach Zoe.

It Takes Three to Tango

Once in the snowy location, keep moving forward until you reach the field with red flowers. Beware of them and move only on large stones and wooden poles. Now the first player in the form of an amphibian jumps into the water and activates the poles for the friend, who should eventually end up on a small island in the middle of the location.

Next, the task becomes a bit more complicated: Zoe interacts with the flower, thereby lowering the platform with red plants. The first player jumps out of the water and transforms into a gorilla, clinging to these plants. Using the same principle, first raise and then lower the second platform so the monkey can reach the flower and hit it several times. When the second player jumps onto the same flower, they can raise it higher.

Now the task becomes even more challenging. To open the gates, you need to activate three symbols: the player in the form of a monkey hits the central column, then the right one, and finally the left one. Their partner must capture the columns so that the images on them match the statues above the gates.

Next, you will encounter a small musical segment where you simply need to correctly repeat the movements after the monkey king. If any player makes a mistake, you can replay the last level.

When you find yourself on the dance floor, you will have to collect small monkeys of the corresponding color, creating a snake. There are two important things to know: do not collide with each other or with the walls, as in these cases, your snake will fall apart, and you will have to chase the monkeys again. Several rounds of repeating movements after the king will start again, after which the subquest will be completed, and you can progress in the storyline.

Halls of Ice

Destroy the vine and wait for your friend to cross to the other side in the form of a fairy to direct the platform to you. Once on it, use the human form and double jump with a dash — this way, you can overcome the spear obstacle.

Reach the huge castle gates and break the vine again. The second player in the form of a fairy climbs into the keyhole, where they must correctly arrange the symbols in a certain time (from left to right). Meanwhile, the hero in the form of a gorilla activates the rods on the gates:

  • Symbol resembling a Y;
  • Symbol resembling an X with two dots;
  • Three circles;
  • Large circle with a dot.

To penetrate deeper into the castle, you will need to clear the passage using a cube. Push the cube to the right side and hold it exactly in the middle. Now push it to the left. Holding the stance opposite, push to the center. This way, you can open the passage.

In the next location, dive underwater and interact with the flower, which will release a sphere. The second character catches this sphere in the form of a tree and sends it into the dark window.

Climb higher on ledges and platforms to eventually find yourself in one of the towers, where an optional story awaits.

Additional Task. Collapsing Star

This story is quite interesting, although it doesn't offer players any special skills. For most of the additional quest, you will need to timely move from cover to cover, as the dying sun periodically emits a massive amount of energy. To do this, use special protective screens and various objects scattered throughout the level.

When the game becomes a 2D platformer, you may encounter your first problems. The thing is, gamers need to pass this segment parallel to each other, not together. Use the first button behind the protective screen to lower the lift — this way, your friend will rise higher, then move under the lift and wait for it. Right after the next burst, the character on top stands on the button to raise the platform for the player below. If the player on top jumps down for any reason, you will have to restart the last checkpoint, as you won't be able to proceed further.

The character below activates the button, opening the passage for the hero above. Continue passing this segment using the same principle, and after the rods, the game will switch back to 3D.

When faced with energy shields, you need to interact with all the buttons to activate them. First, there will be four, then five, and eight. Agree with your partner in advance on who presses which buttons, as you are limited in time. Buttons that have not yet been pressed will glow red.

Immediately after this, each hero will have their own handheld shield, but they need to be used alternately. The closer you get to the core, the more frequent the bursts become. Follow each other without overtaking and activate the shields with each energy burst.

How to Defeat the Boss Ice King

Returning from the additional story, follow the only path until you find yourself in a spacious hall with a statue. The character in the form of a tree grabs it and breaks the ice, while the partner interacts with the sphere under the ice. Meanwhile, the tree catches the sphere and directs it to the gates.

After a lengthy cutscene, dodge the boss on a small platform until you find yourself in the arena. First, the opponent will start releasing energy columns and ice spikes across the arena — just dodge them. Once the enemy stands on its hind legs, Zoe in the form of a tree should grab it and lay it on the arena. Transform into a gorilla to deal the maximum amount of damage while the boss lies motionless.

Next, in addition to the previously mentioned attacks, ice spikes falling from above will appear. Pay attention to the ice, as it will be highlighted in red if a spike is going to land in that area. Repeat the same actions as before.

After the second successful attack, if the boss has about half of its health left, it will break the ice in the arena, and you will have to find a new place for the battle. Dodge the small whirlwinds moving across the arena, and when they disappear, dive underwater in the form of an amphibian and activate the sphere. The player in the form of a tree catches the sphere and directs it at the opponent, thereby stunning it. Don't stay in the water too long: as soon as it loses consciousness, you'll have the opportunity to attack the enemy in the form of a gorilla.

To defeat the boss, you'll have to perform the same actions as before, but first, you need to melt the ice crust over the pool with the flower. This can be done using the fireballs that appear in the arena. Lure them to the center of the location and wait for the balls to explode, thereby melting the ice. Once this happens, throw the sphere at the opponent again.
