How to Get and Deploy Scouts in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Allies play an important role in Assassin's Creed Shadows. In addition to specific characters who help you on the battlefield and in the hideout, there are scouts in the game. From our guide, you'll learn what they are for and how to increase their numbers.
What are scouts used for in Assassin's Creed Shadows
- Smuggling resources. During the playthrough, you will find warehouses that can be looted if you send scouts to them. We discussed this mechanic in more detail in a separate guide.
- Reconnaissance of territory. You can send people to search for specific targets in a designated location. If it is found, it will appear on your map.
- Reducing the wanted level. This option becomes available at Hideout level 2. Thanks to the actions of the spies, the guards will stop searching for you.
- Replenishing the materials chest. If you haven't used scouts in the current season, each of them will automatically bring you valuable resources. The amount depends on the level of the Hideout.
In our opinion, the most sensible way to use scouts is for smuggling materials. In all other cases, you can manage on your own.
How to increase the number of scouts in Assassin's Creed Shadows
If you actively explore the game world and loot warehouses, you will soon face a shortage of available spies. Fortunately, you can attract more people to your side. The main ways:
- Completing the additional quest "Finding New Allies". After this, you will receive two additional spies.
- Building a research facility and upgrading it. The construction itself and each upgrade will provide you with one additional fighter.
You can also upgrade the stables to level 2. In this case, you will use not two, but only one spy for stealing materials from warehouses.
How to replenish the number of scouts in Assassin's Creed Shadows
At the start of each season, all spies will complete their tasks and will be available for hire again. However, there are ways to replenish the number of available allies much earlier:
- Helping residents. These are random tasks that don't even appear on the map. They include victims of criminals, merchants with broken carts, and travelers in trouble. If you complete their request, they will offer you useful information or help with reconnaissance. Choose the second option if you want to replenish the number of fighters.
- Building kakurega, assassin's hideouts. They can be constructed both at your base and in the major cities of Japan. For 200 coins, a scout will return to duty ahead of time. This cost can be reduced by 30% if you spend money on building Nando in the Hideout.
