Assassin's Creed: Shadows Haters Are Furious Again — This Time Over Tea

Ubisoft just can’t catch a break with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows—even the most harmless news can spark controversy. That’s exactly what happened a few days ago when the company announced a collaboration with tea and coffee retailer Madrinals.

Madrinals is known for its gaming-themed collaborations, having previously partnered with Cyberpunk 2077, Terraria, Halo, and Dead by Daylight. Now, Assassin’s Creed has joined the list.

On February 24, the company unveiled two bubble tea flavors: Yasuke’s strawberry matcha and Naoe’s sakura fruit tea. For die-hard fans, there’s also a collector’s bundle featuring both drinks and a shaker cup.

What could possibly go wrong? Well, users on X quickly took to Google and discovered that bubble tea originated in Taiwan—leading to yet another uproar over Ubisoft’s historical accuracy.

This isn’t the first controversy surrounding Shadows. Earlier, some Japanese officials raised concerns about the game’s depiction of Itate Hyozu Shrine, which players can destroy.

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows launches on March 20 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
