Developer of Cancelled Twisted Metal Reboot Released Screenshots and Game Details

In February 2024, Bloomberg columnist Jason Schreier reported that Sony had canceled the reboot of Twisted Metal from Firesprite. A year later, details of the project and even some screenshots appeared online.

The information was found in the profile of one of the interface developers, Hugo Silva. He worked on Project Copper (the code name for the Twisted Metal reboot) from 2022 to 2023, thanks to which he was able to share details and images of the game. The latter are very vague due to an NDA.

Project Copper was a 3rd person vehicular action combat game, it was based on a classic IP owned by PlayStation developed by Firesprite (PlayStation Studios) it had 3rd person shooter mechanics wrapped with 3rd person vehicle combat with the objective of being the last one standing.

Thanks to his resume, it is now known that the Twisted Metal reboot was developed as a battle royale on the Unreal Engine 5. It is difficult to judge the quality of a closed project based on the frames — the images are full of unfinished assets.

Recall that Sony recently hinted at the return of its old game franchises. Twisted Metal may be among them.
