How would a Fallout 3 remake look today? Enthusiast R.G.Surota set out to answer that question by recreating Bethesda’s legendary RPG intro in Unreal Engine 5.
The minute-and-a-half video showcases the familiar shot panning over a rusted-out bus before transitioning into a sweeping view of post-apocalyptic Washington, D.C. In addition to faithfully recreating the original sequence, the creator incorporated cut scenes from Fallout 3’s storyboards, which were mentioned in the game’s official art book.
The animation is not a 1:1 recreation of the original opening sequence. Instead, it attempts to imagine "what if Fallout 3 were released in 2024" and what kind of opening it might have. Building upon the original opening, I incorporated storyboard concepts mentioned in Fallout 3's official art book, aiming to create something more grand and fragmented in style.
This project is born from my passion for the Fallout series, and I sincerely hope you'll enjoy this video.
For comparison, here’s the original opening sequence:
Previously, another YouTuber, Sora AI, created an AI-generated trailer for a Fallout 3 adaptation, styled after an '80s sci-fi film.
