Avalanche Studios Halts Development on Contraband
Well-known journalist and insider Jason Schreier reported that Microsoft has cancelled Contraband, the title being developed by Just Cause creators, Avalanche Studios.
Avalanche Studios has stated that the game has not been cancelled, but is instead on indefinite hold.
Contraband was announced during Microsoft's E3 2021 presentation. Since its reveal, developers have remained largely silent about the game. What we do know is that the project was intended to be a co-op open-world action game set in the 1970s. Rumors surfaced in the spring of 2024 that Avalanche Studios was facing development challenges with the title.
Recently, insider Tom Henderson claimed that Ubisoft has cancelled the sequel to Star Wars Outlaws. Earlier in July, reports emerged of the cancellation of the AAA spy shooter Perfect Dark, the action-adventure title Everwild, and an unannounced MMORPG from the creators of The Elder Scrolls Online.
