Game director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Naoki Hamaguchi, has shared an encouraging update on the project’s status. According to him, the finale of the trilogy is already in the final stage of production and is progressing “almost exactly on schedule,” as originally planned at the start of the remake project.

The game is already fully playable, and we’re currently in the final push phase — refining and polishing the overall experience. Development is progressing almost exactly as planned.

Although the official title of the third installment has yet to be revealed (it has already been decided by Tetsuya Nomura), Square Enix continues to keep details under wraps. It has also been confirmed that the game is still being developed on a modified version of Unreal Engine 4 — the team chose not to switch to Unreal Engine 5 due to its experience with the current technology. The project is being developed simultaneously for all modern platforms.

Hamaguchi also emphasized that a multiplatform release will not affect graphical quality. According to him, the studio optimizes each version separately — taking into account the CPU, GPU, and memory capacity of each platform — but asset design is primarily targeted at high-performance PCs.

The quality is improving literally day by day. Every time we launch the game, the landscapes feel new — and that’s truly exciting.

There is still no confirmed release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, but Hamaguchi hinted that the studio may be ready to share new details in the foreseeable future.

Do you think we’ll see a full announcement of the third installment as early as this summer, or will Square Enix keep the intrigue going a bit longer?
