Where to Find the Great Black Steel Hammer in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and only expansion for Elden Ring. In it, you will embark on a journey in the world of Shadows. You will learn about the fate of Miquella the Unalloyed, who set off in search of Queen Marika. Of course, you will encounter strong mobs and mighty bosses along the way. To fight them, you will need powerful weapons. For example, the Great Black Steel Hammer. In this guide, we will tell you where to find it.

Who the Great Black Steel Hammer is Suitable For

This weapon is designed for warriors with high Strength and Faith attributes. If you have invested experience points in these skills, the hammer in your hands will deal massive damage. Instead of blocking enemy strikes, you can counterattack. In this case, a small explosion will occur.

The hammer is equipped with a special Ash of War called Patience. It allows you to take a defensive stance, reducing enemy damage by 45%. The effect lasts only 3 seconds, but this is enough to avoid death from a powerful boss strike.

Note that the hammer is extremely heavy. It weighs 12 units. However, at the maximum upgrade level, this weapon deals massive damage. It can be upgraded to +25 using regular smithing stones.

What Attributes Are Needed to Use the Great Black Steel Hammer

To effectively fight with this hammer, you need to level up your character as follows:

  • Strength — 25 points;
  • Dexterity — 11 points;
  • Faith — 17 points.

These are the starting attributes. For maximum weapon efficiency, Strength values should be much higher. Ideally, level it up to 55 units. Further damage increase will be insignificant.

Where to Find the Great Black Steel Hammer

You can get it at the very beginning of the Shadow of the Erdtree playthrough. From the very first site of grace, head southeast until you see the Church of Solace.

There, you will find an enemy wielding this weapon.

During the fight, he will periodically strike the ground, dealing area damage. Try to avoid these attacks. Otherwise, he won't pose much of a challenge. After this enemy's death, loot his body and pick up the hammer.
