Google Revives Androidify with AI to Craft Your Android Bot in Seconds

Arkadiy Andrienko

Google has unveiled an updated version of its Androidify service, letting anyone create a personalized Android bot. Unlike the original app, which was shut down years ago, this new iteration uses neural networks to turn a selfie or a text description into a stylized avatar.

The service, available both as a mobile app and on the web, is powered by a two-model AI pipeline: First, Gemini 2.5 Flash analyzes your uploaded photo, creates a detailed text description of it, and checks the image for safety. Then, Imagen 3 takes over to generate the bot itself in that recognizable, cartoonish Android aesthetic.

You're not limited to just photos, though. You can also type out a text prompt describing your ideal character or use the "Help me describe" feature, which suggests clothing and hairstyle options for you. Once your bot is generated, you can customize it further: add accessories, choose a background, or even turn it into a sticker (with the background removed) or a set of phone wallpapers.

For Android fans, the return of Androidify is a serious nostalgia trip. The original app for creating custom avatars launched back in 2011 and quickly became a hit before Google pulled the plug in 2020. A previous attempt to revive it last year didn't make much of a splash, but many feel this new version finally captures the spirit of the original — just on a whole new tech level.

You can check out the new Androidify and build your own bot right now on Google Play or via the project's official website. Google believes these digital avatars are more than just fun images; they're a new tool for self-expression and interaction online. The company positions Androidify not just as a bit of fun, but as a first step toward more personalized and secure digital interactions, where your virtual representative is both recognizable and unique.
