Perplexity Launches Comet, an AI-Powered Browser for Android

Perplexity, a company known for its AI-powered search engine, has released the Comet browser for Android smartphone owners. The application, previously only available for computers, can now be installed for free from Google Play.
The new browser is positioned not just as a viewer, but as a tool that actively assists users with their web surfing. Comet's key feature is its built-in AI assistant, capable of not only finding information but also performing practical tasks. For instance, it can autonomously fill out various forms on websites, saving the user's time.
Other notable features include:
- A "Summarize" button that lets you get a brief summary of an open webpage's content with a single tap;
- A voice chat mode allows you to ask the AI questions verbally without having to type;
- For a more comfortable viewing experience, Comet includes a built-in ad and tracker blocker;
- The assistant can analyze all open tabs simultaneously, finding and synthesizing information from multiple sources;
The developers emphasize that they didn't just port the interface from the desktop version but built the mobile browser from the ground up, considering the specifics of use on smaller screens. A version of the browser for the iOS operating system will be released in the coming weeks.
This is a direction other market players are actively developing as well—recently, OpenAI released its own ChatGPT Atlas browser for macOS, which also bets on an autonomous AI agent to complete tasks. However, unlike the Apple-focused solution, which is still awaiting a release on other platforms, Perplexity's Comet already offers Android and Windows device owners a chance to experience similar functionality today.
