It looks like the new Steam Controller may reach players very soon. Japanese outlet 4Gamer published its review of Valve’s gamepad ahead of time, listing a possible release date — May 4. The article was later hidden, suggesting a broken embargo.
According to media reports, the article mentioned that Steam Controller sales in Japan would begin on May 4 at 3:00 p.m. local time. The journalists also compared the device’s size with the Xbox One and DualSense gamepads. Earlier, tech blogger TechyTalk accidentally published a Steam Controller review on his YouTube channel ahead of time. Thanks to the video, we learned the controller’s estimated price: $99.
Valve has not officially announced either the price or the release date of the device yet. However, the leaked review is not the first hint that the launch may be close. Earlier, a hidden Steam Controller unboxing video was spotted in the SteamDB database, while insider Brad Lynch reported that Valve had already received a large shipment of controllers in the US.
The new Steam Controller is expected to be part of Valve’s new hardware lineup alongside the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame VR headset. Judging by the latest leaks, however, the controller may launch earlier than the other devices.
