Google says its new native Gemini app for Windows is designed to stay lightweight while serving as the first step toward deeper desktop integration for the assistant. The app is available to download globally for Windows 10 and 11.
On Windows, pressing Alt + Space opens Gemini over the active window, letting it sit alongside other apps and tools instead of taking over the screen. Google also says the desktop app works with Gmail and Google Drive, so it can pull in account data to help draft summaries and handle other tasks.
Gemini can also hand off multi-step requests to Gemini Spark, which Google describes as a 24/7 personal AI agent. That pushes the Windows release beyond a simple chat window and closer to a desktop helper that can keep working through several steps.
The app is not limited to text, either. Google says Gemini for Windows can generate images with Nano Banana and create videos with Gemini Omni. In a post on X, the company summed up the main desktop use case with a short instruction:

Google also says this launch is only the beginning, with more native desktop capabilities planned for Windows over time. The app already has its own download page, and the company frames the release as a starting point rather than a finished version.
