MK's Dynamic Weather Release

  • BeamNG.drive — MK's Dynamic Weather Release

This Lua script adds a dynamic weather system to BeamNG, using engine features such as rain, fog, and clouds. The script is still in beta and not fully finished, but its core systems are already functional and provide a much more dynamic environment.

Features:

  • Weather types: sunny, cloudy, light rain, rainy, stormy, foggy, foggy rain;
  • Dynamic wind affecting vehicles and ground/forest objects where supported;
  • Random wind gusts with frequency and strength depending on current weather;
  • Tornadoes that slowly chase the player and interact with physical objects (vehicles, concrete walls, mattresses, etc.), only one can be active at a time;
  • Slippery roads during rain or snow (works only on terrain-based roads, not mesh roads like bridges);
  • Dynamic rain, clouds, fog, temperature, and brightness;
  • User interface for optional control of weather, wind, tornadoes, and road conditions;
  • Compatible with Career Mode and missions/scenarios.

Controls:

  • Enable dynamic weather — Alt + W;
  • Open user interface — Ctrl + Alt + W;
  • Spawn a tornado — Alt + T.

Usage:

  • To enable dynamic weather on a map, press Alt + W. Once activated, a message will appear in the top-right corner of the screen. When changing maps, the script unloads automatically to prevent issues and must be re-enabled manually.
  • Tornadoes are not part of the default weather cycle and must be enabled or spawned manually. You can spawn one near your current vehicle using Alt + T or enable random spawning via the UI. In the current version, random tornadoes are not weather-dependent, this will be improved in a future update. Only one tornado can exist at a time.
  • The user interface is available while the main menu (Esc) is open and allows you to force specific weather, control road conditions, wind speed, tornadoes, time between random events, and switch between snow and rain. Console commands are also available and documented in the discussion thread.

Version 1.2:

  • Career Mode:
  • Weather in Career Mode is now disabled by default and can be enabled in the settings, previous user settings are preserved;

User Interface:

  • Slight UI redesign;
  • All reference markers replaced with tooltips;
  • Removed a reference marker that displayed incorrect information;

Miscellaneous:

  • Shadow settings changed and are now disabled by default;
  • Added fast mode (weather timelapse);
  • Added an option to disable dynamic road conditions, recommended when using fast mode to reduce lag spikes;
  • Adjusted weather probabilities, making rain cycles less frequent;
  • Fixed an issue where random tornado spawning was not disabled after a TornadoStorm event.

Installation:

  • Download the mod archive and move it to: C:\Users\UserNAME\Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods.
