An action RPG combining survival and base defense, Bug Heroes follows a team of insects exploring the surroundings and protecting their food supplies from enemies. Players control three heroes—a swift Spider assassin, an armored Beetle, and a machine-gun-wielding Ant engineer—and can switch between them at any time. Levels involve gathering food, fighting a variety of opponents, and taking on optional side quests.

Heroes gain levels, improve their skills, and use equipment and abilities. Players can build different types of turrets to defend the stash and set traps against attackers. Experience can be shared among all three heroes or focused on one, allowing progression to emphasize the characters or the defenses.
