This fantasy vertical-scrolling shooter follows four dragon riders who face the demon lord Nebiros and his army to save their loved ones and the world. In Dragon Blaze, players choose a hero and attack enemies with regular shots, bombs, and magic. Its central mechanic is the dragon shot: the rider separates from the dragon to unleash a powerful close-range attack. Hitting enemies and boss cores with it can earn extra score items and technical bonuses.

Separating from the dragon also changes the effect of the magic shot. Arcade mode offers seven difficulty levels, while settings allow players to adjust the number of lives and continues, controls, and screen orientation. The game also features online rankings.
