Ghosts 'N Goblins is a fantasy platformer about the knight Sir Arthur, who sets out to rescue Princess Prin-Prin from the Demon World. His route is blocked by zombies, ogres, demons, cyclopes, dragons, and other monsters.
Arthur fights enemies and collects weapons, bonuses, and suits of armor. The first hit strips away his armor, while a second costs him a life; running out of time on a level also costs a life. After losing a life, he must restart the level or continue from a checkpoint. Defeating the final boss does not end the adventure: reaching the true ending requires replaying the game at a higher difficulty.
