This hockey simulation combines fast, physical gameplay with an arcade-style presentation. Gretzky NHL 2005 features detailed player facial animations and arenas with venue-specific match introductions, goal horns and interactive crowds.

Tournament Mode allows players to customize competitions, while Franchise Mode puts them in the role of a team owner for a season. The game also includes an online mode with downloadable roster updates and Rivalry Mode, which lets teams revisit a heated matchup. EyeToy functionality can put a player’s face into the game.
