Griptape Backbone is a first-person skateboarding game with a vaporwave aesthetic, set in a purgatory between life and death. The skater gathers aesthetic elements in pursuit of enlightenment, seeking to atone for sins, help lost souls, find meaning in life, and find closure in death.
The player rides across an open-world map and can skate on any surface. Accessible controls support casual riding, while midair board control allows for more involved tricks. Objectives can be set aside to explore skate spots and listen to the in-game radio, which features music from more than 25 artists.
