A fantasy fighting game in the Guilty Gear series, it pits 17 characters against one another, bringing together returning fighters and newcomers. The characters and environments are rendered in 3D with a hand-drawn anime look. Its combat system centers on Roman Cancel, a mechanic that lets players shape their own battle strategies.

The story mode combines an adventure-game structure with TV-style animation to unfold the narrative. A tutorial and training missions introduce the combat system, while M.O.M. mode lets characters use moves from other fighters. Online play includes ranked matches, rooms for casual bouts, and match spectating; while waiting for an opponent, players can access arcade and training modes.
