Hack 'n' Slash is a fantasy puzzle adventure about a hero who defies a wizard’s restrictions and sets out to discover why the kingdom has fallen into disarray. Progress depends on hacking the game itself: the player uses a sword to alter object properties, artifacts to adjust global variables, and equipment to reveal information hidden from ordinary view.

Puzzles can be solved in different ways, and mastering the mechanics allows the player to change creature behavior and edit running code. In procedurally generated dungeons, the hero can tamper with the game’s inner workings and travel back in time to change its rules and undo the effects of errors.
