The events unfold in June 1983 in the quiet Japanese village of Hinamizawa. The main character, high school student Keiichi Maebara, moves here from the city and quickly makes friends among the local schoolgirls. The idyll shatters during the annual Watanagashi festival. Keiichi learns a terrible secret: for several years in a row, on the day of the celebration, one person is found brutally murdered, and another goes missing without a trace. Soon he begins to notice that his new friends are behaving suspiciously, hiding frightening secrets, and then the village turns into a battlefield filled with paranoia, betrayal, and mysticism. The game consists of several separate arcs (chapters). The player will dive into different time loops and view events from the perspectives of different characters to piece together the puzzle and uncover the dark secret of Hinamizawa.
