Icarus is a free-to-play multiplayer role-playing game in a fantasy style, inspired by Korean and Japanese comics. It stands out from other MMORPGs with many hundreds of animals that players can tame as companions or ride as mounts. There is a vast game world with enormous locations, various community events, large-scale battles, and ranked duels. Those interested can try unique dungeons with five levels of difficulty.
Unique gaming experience
Icarus starts like other MMORPGs: you need to create a hero, customize their appearance and class, after which you will level up over 60 levels in the game world to unlock all game content. There are events and quests with computer surroundings (PvE) and with other players (PvP). You can form Alliances and Guilds.
The game's feature is battles on pets, of which there are already almost a thousand. If you dreamed of flying on an eagle, riding a unicorn, controlling a fairy giant, or taming a dragon – Icarus will give you that opportunity! Taming animals is a separate challenging mini-game, but if successful, you will gain not just a loyal friend, but also a partner that can be sent to complete special quests.
Animals are divided into classes – from simple to epic and come in two variants. The first – a pet, can be a companion and enhance the player's stats. The second – a mount, can become a full-fledged team member that can be ridden. Fights on flying mounts are a common event in the game.
All animals have their own combat abilities and characteristics that can be raised or combined at the beast farm. Taking a mount into battle can significantly increase your combat effectiveness.
As for the combat system, it is simple and can be quickly understood. It uses auto-targeting on the enemy the character is looking at, but you can also assign it with the mouse if desired. Attacks are related to the correct pressing of buttons and timely use of abilities – the game features simple combo attacks.
The backstory of the game world and plot
The action of Icarus takes place in the fictional fantasy world of Midlas, across several continents. The plot unfolds like in other games of the genre – at the beginning of the game, you need to escort Princess Lania to the King, but in the middle of the journey, the squad is attacked, the guards are killed, and the princess is kidnapped. One of Lania's bodyguards, in the form of the protagonist, turns out to be the only survivor and ends up in prison.
Trouble does not come alone – the demon Salant has escaped from celestial custody, regained his immense power, and seeks revenge on the local good deities who imprisoned him in a dungeon. As a result, the magical world of Icarus is on the brink of destruction.
The main storyline begins in the capital. The hero will have to earn the King's trust, overcome court intrigues, and suspicions of betrayal. Along the way, Salant will be defeated, and the princess will be returned to the kingdom.
The player will visit a variety of locations – from large cities and their suburbs to remote villages where people barely get by, as well as unique dungeons – the Lava Cave, Dracula's mansion, ancient ruined pyramids, and even the demon world, the walkthrough of which we described in the guide.
Classes
In Icarus, the player has access to six different classes, but the race is the same for all – humans. You can learn your class by taking our test, and here’s what you will encounter in the game:
- Assassin – a melee fighter, very agile and fast. Throws daggers at enemies, strikes with short swords. Deals massive damage to a single target but cannot control crowds. All this requires confident management, making this class difficult to master.
- Berserker – the easiest class to master in Icarus, using a large two-handed sword and clad in heavy armor. Excellent at crowd control, pushing them into a corner with sweeping strikes, and injuries only make him stronger.
- Priest – a classic support class, enhances teammates in the party, and if someone dies or loses a lot of health, the priest can resurrect them (restore health). The priest has low damage but is hard to kill since he wears light armor and can control enemies en masse.
- Archer – proficient in both melee and ranged combat, using the power of rain to unleash chaos on his enemies. Dressed in sturdy shield armor and is a valuable member of any squad. One of the most difficult classes to master in the game.
- Wizard – a classic sorcerer, a powerful master of elements, dealing massive area damage. As expected, has minimal health compared to other characters and does not wear armor. Simple spells can be cast while moving, while complex ones must be chanted.
- Guardian – another melee fighter, but can be called the "tank" of Icarus, as he easily withstands enemy assaults, enhances the abilities and stats of allies nearby, and increases the experience gained by party members.
Player versus Environment Modes
Upon reaching the maximum level of 60, all PvE opportunities become available to the character:
- Events (events), in which you can participate alone or with a team of friends from the guild. During these events, you need to find an item (kill an NPC) and report it to the client. For example, obtain a mana stone and deliver it to an NPC.
- Dungeons (dungeons) – completed in a separate game area and divided into five levels of difficulty, they can be tackled solo or in groups of up to six players, this is the main mode for leveling up.
- Territory Bosses – particularly strong enemies that cannot be defeated alone, only as a team, appearing daily in specific locations on certain maps. Designed for four to six players.
- Raids — once a week a portal opens to special locations where powerful and deadly bosses reside, supported by an army of minions, which can be defeated by a dozen well-leveled heroes controlled by experienced players.
- Ellora's Spire – a massive tower that reaches beyond the clouds. It contains 30 small floors, and successfully completing one grants access to the next floor. Players will face challenging NPCs, legendary monsters, and titans.
- Animal Taming – the rarest creatures hide from players in legendary dungeons, and to tame one, a special pet scroll is required. Later, the animal can be turned into a stone and inserted into equipment, kept as a regular pet, or ridden as a mount.
Player versus Player Modes
Starting from level 30, players can participate in the following PvP:
- Duels – battles against another player's character "one on one" to assess one's strength and skill in gameplay.
- Alliance Wars – various multiplayer battles aimed at controlling the global map. Victory goes to the side that first kills 1,000 opponents.
- Arena Mode – a battle involving two groups of 2-4 heroes, where each brings their pet into the fight. A game within a game, with its own rules, tactics, and strategy.
- The Exorane Wastes – a zone of free PvP, where other players can attack at any moment and from any direction. If survival is achieved, good loot can be obtained.
