Christofer Sundberg, creator of the Just Cause franchise and founder of Avalanche Studios, has finally spoken out about the series’ future — and it’s not good news. According to him, Just Cause 5 will never be released. Even if development had started, he said, it wouldn’t have saved the studio, as the issues surrounding the fourth game were simply too severe.

It turns out Just Cause 5 was in development but was canceled during active production. This information came to light via the LinkedIn profile of a Sumo Digital developer, who listed working on Just Cause 5 as a lead for the vehicles team. Based on his employment dates (July 2021 to July 2023), the project appears to have been shut down around the end of that period.
